People create all kinds of reasons to not speak up and express their feelings to others. These reasons create and often reinforce a self-narrative that over time comes to define their identity. This identity eventually becomes a limiting core self-identity that limits our freedom. How free do you want to be in this life that could end any day? Perhaps it is time to reassess your self-narrative and decide to come from a place of conscious choice. Of course, other people may find you more interesting and even outspoken(gasp!). Consider this quote: “Being who we are requires that we can talk openly about things that are important to us, that we take a clear position on where we stand on important emotional issues, and that we clarify the limits of what is acceptable and tolerable to us in a relationship.” – Harriet Lerner
I would describe this as having healthy energetic boundaries with others. Imagine the possibilities.
